Lugo

Galicia

The only city in the world ringed by a complete Roman wall — a UNESCO masterpiece you can walk on top of.

A short history

Founded by the Romans as Lucus Augusti in 13 BC, Lugo's 2.1-km wall (built around 270 AD) survives entirely intact and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Primitivo enters through the Porta de San Pedro and pilgrims traditionally walk the full ramparts before leaving.
