Mansilla de las Mulas

León

A walled river town on the Esla — last stop before León, with surviving medieval ramparts.

A short history

Founded in 1181 by Fernando II of León as a defensive plaza, Mansilla still keeps three of its original four gates and long stretches of the rammed-earth medieval wall — among the best preserved in Castile.
