A Galician mountain village where pilgrims once carried limestone to Castañeda's kilns for the cathedral of Santiago.

A short history

Medieval pilgrims took a stone from Triacastela's quarry and carried it 100 km on to Castañeda, where it was burned for the lime used to build Santiago's cathedral. The custom is recorded in the Codex Calixtinus.
