From Pamplona's Calle Estafeta to León's Barrio Húmedo, here are the towns where you should plan your dinner around tapas — and where they're free with a drink.

Three towns on the Francés have a serious free-tapas culture. Order a drink, get a small plate. Move bars. Repeat.
Pamplona — Calle Estafeta and the streets around Plaza del Castillo. Bar Gaucho is the institution. Try the chistorra and the foie pintxo.
Logroño — Calle Laurel, the legendary 'tapas alley'. Each bar specialises in one thing: Bar Soriano (mushrooms on bread), Bar Ángel (champi with garlic prawns), El Soldado de Tudelilla (potatoes).
León — Barrio Húmedo and Barrio Romántico. Free tapas with every drink. See our León restaurants guide.
Honorary mentions: Burgos (around Plaza del Cid), Astorga (the chocolate, technically not a tapa but worth a stop), and Sarria's busy main street in the evening.
How to do a tapas crawl: order una caña (small beer) or un vino (small wine) — €1.50–€2.50. The tapa arrives free. Eat it. Pay. Move on. Two drinks per bar, three or four bars, you've had dinner for €15.
